David Armistead
David has been a life-long member of Fairmount Christian Church in Mechanicsville, Virginia. He and his wife, Shirley, have two sons, who both are full-time foreign missionaries. David’s first missions experience came while he was serving in the Army in Germany in 1957-58. He volunteered his time in a local German orphanage. After graduating from college, working in the business world, and raising a family, David had a life-changing experience in 1989. He went on a week’s mission trip with Fairmount to Haiti to help build a church in Cité Soleil for a group of Haitian Christians led by Leon Dorleans.
The church structure was built in a week; but David and the rest of the team saw the crushing needs in Haiti that would take much more time to address. David resolved to help Leon’s ministry in Haiti by forming a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and Haiti Outreach Ministries (HOM) was born. David served as its volunteer president for 16 years, until 2006. During these years, the ministry of HOM grew tremendously through the establishment of four churches, two schools, two medical clinics, and a feeding program – and most importantly, bringing thousands of Haitians to Christ.
