Farewell and God Bless Marty & Mati
Through the years we have been blessed to have some amazing people serve with us as long term volunteers. In December 2015 we said a very reluctant good-bye to one of the best. Marty’s contributions to Haiti Outreach Ministries (HOM) are unmeasurable. Although his primary responsibility was with our building projects, his leadership skills, outgoing personality and passion for the Lord made an impression on everyone. After reading the book ‘Radical’ by David Platt, Marty stated he felt the Lord was leading him to step out of his comfort zone by volunteering in Haiti. That first step led to more than 3 years of dedicated service, great friendships and love! Marty met and fell in love with Mathanie (Mati) Meme. In the fall of 2015, Mati accepted his proposal and, after their marriage, they plan to make their home in Haiti with frequent trips back to Indiana.
Saying good bye to one of our own isn’t easy! Mati Meme’s relationship with HOM started as a student (and great soccer player) in our Cité Soleil school. Little did she know one day she would be a valued MICECC employee and a friend to hundreds of team members! Mati came back to us as a translator in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake. Realizing that we needed full time help, we convinced her to join us to help our medical teams. Mati soon became a vital part of our HOM/MICECC family and soon assumed more responsibility in bookkeeping in addition to her duties in the clinic. Her strong faith, quick smile and willingness to tackle anything asked of her quickly made her a favorite with our teams, staff and volunteers – and with one very special person! Words are inadequate to express our appreciation of Mati’s positive impact on our teams, our mission and us.
Marty and Mati will be greatly missed but we wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
